Ever wonder who you truly are or what you’re supposed to do with your life? Do you ever find yourself trying to figure out why things have happened to you in your life?

Covid-19 has nudged us to take a look at our lives differently. Follow your curiosity as Elizabeth explores how to answer these questions using intuitive counselling.

What is Intuitive Counselling?

Intuition is the thread that connects our mind and body to the highest version of ourselves, to our spirit guides, and to the collective higher consciousness.  Intuition allows an individual to know something without analysis or reasoning from the conscious mind. The process of tapping into intuition is like discovering one’s own inner guidebook of knowledge and wisdom. Unfortunately, intuition is often inhibited by a number of factors including social and familial conditioning and lived experiences.  Intuitive counselling supports an individual along a journey of exploration to discover what living intuitively means for them.

An important aspect in Intuitive Counselling is identifying how an individual defines intuition. Learning ways that an individual receives intuitive information is an important part of the self-discovery process.

An Intuitive Counsellor can also offer intuitive knowledge gathered during a session. This is a unique component of intuitive counselling and can add another avenue for exploration and reflection.

Why would someone see an intuitive counsellor?

People seek Intuitive Counselling for a number of reasons. Perhaps feeling “stuck” has prompted an individual to question the direction or purpose of their life. Maybe a particular life event has created an uncomfortable shift and some type of change is desired. Oftentimes, an individual may wish to engage in more holistic and spiritual conversations but have no one in their life to offer an unbiased perspective and safe space to have those conversations. Regardless of the reason, Intuitive Counselling can offer an individual clarity and confidence, new insights and perspectives, and overall feelings of empowerment and well-being.

Who is the Intuitive Counsellor at Safe Harbour Therapy?

Elizabeth Dvergsten is an Intuitive Counsellor. She provides intuitive development and supportive guidance in individual counselling sessions. Elizabeth works from a place of inner knowing, which helps to inform each session and guide the support she provides. She is guided by the belief that everyone is intuitive and has the ability to tap into their intuition to lead more empowered and intentional lives. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from McGill University and has worked in various counselling settings. This combination of intuition, education, and experience has allowed her to create a holistic, grounded, and informed practice for optimal healing and transformation.

What would an intuitive counselling appointment look like?

The first appointment can be nerve-wracking because it may be a new experience and come with an expectation of sharing intimate aspects with a stranger. It is important to know that an Intuitive Counselling session is an invitation and opportunity to discuss whatever an individual feels comfortable sharing; there is never a requirement or expectation to share more than one would like to share.

In addition to talking about reasons for seeking support, the main goal is to determine if you feel comfortable with the counsellor and confident that she can provide helpful support. Care is taken to provide an inclusive, non-judgemental, confidential, and safe space for all.

Once you arrive at the office, there is paperwork to fill out, which takes about 5-10 minutes. Clients are invited to ask questions or share concerns about the counselling process.

Some people find it helpful to come with a few ideas written down to help guide their personal story telling during the first appointment. Those ideas may provide a snapshot of who that person is, supportive people or pets in their life, activities they do that help themselves feel better, and reasons for seeking Intuitive Counselling. Although this may be helpful for some individuals, it is not required.

How does it work?

Intuitive Counselling is a process of exploration and self-discovery. Some aspects may resemble traditional counselling in that the process is supportive in nature and offers reflections and perspective – a mirror or sounding board – for people to clarify their thoughts and feelings. By focusing on developing one’s own intuition to lead more empowered lives, Intuitive Counselling is stepping outside any traditional form of practice and delving into the realm of deep, holistic, spiritual work. The process of self-discovery can help to separate the ego from the inner voice of knowledge and wisdom.

Intuitive Counselling is a practice in guided self-reflection. It encourages individuals to be curious about their own stories and to identify thoughts, patterns, and actions that are no longer serving the highest versions of themselves. By identifying barriers, processing emotional blockages, and challenging conditioned selves, Intuitive Counselling can offer clarity and a shift in perspective.

Intuitive Counselling is a way to feel empowered.  It provides an opportunity to develop holistic practices that strengthen an individual’s unique intuitive abilities.
