Mandy Fraser

Individual and Relational Therapist/Yoga Practitioner (BAH, MMFT, they/them)

Connection with others can be both the most important and the most painful aspect of life. You may feel conflicted, yearning for more rewarding relationships while being repeatedly hurt or disappointed by them. Perhaps you make sacrifices for people without getting anything back in return.

Maybe you doubt your choices of friends or partners, or feel ineffective communicating your needs to others. You may be using substances or distraction to numb or avoid hard feelings. Most life experiences—positive and negative—get filtered through our interpersonal relationship, which first get filtered through our sense of self.

How I can help.

I am an experienced clinician specializing in helping people navigate relationships: friendships, co-workers, family, or partners. I teach clients coping skills to regulate strong emotions so that we can work on safely unearthing root causes of problematic patterns. I work collaboratively so that sessions can be as intense or lighthearted as you need them to be.

I enjoy helping people connect to their true selves; it is an honour to witness transformation. I prioritize creating safety so clients can experience vulnerability without being overwhelmed. As a member of the queer community, I am passionate about working with 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and relationships. Whether the issue is related to gender/sexual identity, or you simply want to experience therapy in a queer affirming space, I would love to support your process!

Passion for helping others.

When I needed help in my early 20s, I was labeled, medicated, and told I needed to develop a thicker skin (but not given any tools to do so). Spoiler alert—it didn’t work. It kept me alive, but barely. I am eternally grateful for the therapists I found later in life who taught me empowerment through self-regulation, and provided a safe environment where my whole self was welcome. Being able to do the same for others is a privilege I do not take for granted.

I am passionate about broadening the reductionist medical model of mental illness. Contemporary society prioritizes the individual over the collective, and rewards productivity at all costs. Given the level of disconnect—from ourselves and each other—it makes sense that so many of us are struggling. The world needs more kindness and compassion. While we can’t change the world, we have the power to create and nurture it in ourselves and our relationships.

Life outside the office.

Throughout my activist, academic, and ultimately professional endeavours, I have been blessed to work alongside the most brilliant, fierce, and hilarious women. Their relentless encouragement keeps me going. I am forever in awe of the power of unconditional support and validation.
