How I can help.

Life happens…and our body is inherently capable of processing those hurtful situations so we can protect ourselves.

Yet when life is too overwhelming to cope, our brain gets behind in its paperwork and our body may act in “seemingly” helpful ways to protect itself: by over responding or under responding in order to survive. Trauma sensitive yoga practices help us to reconnect with our body so we can stay present when we revisit those past events. EMDR engages our innate systems so that we can complete the processing of those old memories that are keeping us stuck in the past so we can live our life – in the present.

Since 2019, I’ve been facilitating with EMDR Trainer, Dr. Kelly Penner Hutton, during her EMDR Basic Training courses and her trainings through Envision’s EMDR Basic Training.

If you’re in need of support in navigating how to use the 3 Prong, 8 Phase EMDR protocol with your clients or if you’d like to complete your EMDR certification, I can help.

If you’re a client who’s tried therapy in the past and is looking for something to deal with the root, I can help.

If you have navigated your traumas and are now looking for the next step in creating the life you choose, I can help.

My story.

Adverse life events (traumas) have knocked me down and there have been times I could not get back up, without help.

In 2009, I remember seeing a therapist who helped me feel that there wasn’t something wrong with me… Something wrong happened to me. We used EMDR to help me move through those traumas so that I could live in the present moment, not in the past.

I received my Basic EMDR Training in 2013 and since then have helped numerous clients resolve their distress using EMDR Therapy. In 2014, I discovered my love of yoga and read about how it helps those struggling with complex PTSD in Bessel van der Kolk’s book, The Body Keeps the Score.

Recently I’ve become an Approved EMDR Consultant and a TCTSY Facilitator with a 300 hour certification in trauma sensitive yoga and a 200 hour yoga teacher training to support client’s with complex trauma so they can claim their body before processing traumas using EMDR.

I’ve also recently received training in Life Coaching and will complete my Spiritual Coaching and Reiki training in the fall of 2022 so I can journey with clients from start to finish – offering support in the past, present and future: body, mind & soul.

I also enjoy working with therapists co-facilitating EMDR Therapy training and offering consultation to those therapists seeking EMDR Therapy certification to support their clients in moving on from the grips of the past and feeling embodied in the here and now with agency, compassion and joy.

Life outside the office.

Mental health advocacy is a passion of mine, in addition to learning how to live our best lives. I love walking my dog and enjoying the sunshine and trees. As a highly sensitive person, some of my favourite hobbies are spent by myself reading in my comfy chair, writing, running outdoors, training, practicing yoga, or meditating. Yet connecting in a meaningful way with loved ones is essential for me too, whether it’s being inspired by the joy of my nieces and nephews, laughing out loud with my husband, or just being with my family and friends.

85 – The Power of Gratitude with Julie Long

written by Julie Long on 14/10/21

Around this time of year, it’s a custom for many to share what they appreciate about each other. Perhaps you’ve recently been on the receiving end of a thank you. Do you remember your reaction? I know when I receive a comment of appreciation it resonates with me and puts a bounce in my step. Research has shown that sharing an expression of gratitude with another person elevates the receiver’s mood but it helps elevate the mood of the giver of the gratitude. It’s a dose of dopamine and who doesn’t like feeling better?
