Our mission is to provide collaborative wrap-around care for body, mind, soul in a nurturing and holistic space where individuals can embark on a transformative journey of healing and self-discovery without the added stress of navigating the health system alone. Our commitment is to be a guiding beacon of hope, offering unwavering support and guidance as our clients navigate their paths to well-being and lead fulfilling lives.
Our journey began in 2003 when our founder, Julie Long, experienced a devastating loss. Her eldest brother lost his battle with depression, leaving a painful void. While struggling to navigate her healing journey and find the needed supports, Julie dreamt of finding a wellness centre in Winnipeg that could provide wraparound collaborative care, allowing her to focus solely on her healing process. That dream was made a reality in 2018 when Julie founded Safe Harbour with a handful of practitioners.
In 2022 Julie handed the Harbourmaster keys to Carmen Okhmatovski, who carries on the same vision with a large team of dedicated and skilled professionals in a comprehensive holistic array of therapies and healing modalities. We aim to provide services that address the seven dimensions of wellness: mental, physical, social, financial, spiritual, environmental, and vocational. We aim to create a space where we bridge gaps, build community, and grow individually and collectively. Together we provide a safe and nurturing place to foster healing for body, mind, and soul.
We hold sacred the worth and dignity of all humans. We are inclusive and affirming of all races, ethnicities, genders, and sexualities.
We strive to be a place where people can come without fear of racism, prejudice, or discrimination both in action and outlook, regardless of the inborn traits that define their identity and human experience. We strive to be a place where clients and colleagues will find not just passive tolerance or acceptance, but enthusiastic support for their whole selves, and for living in a way that feels life-giving and congruent to them.
We strive to provide care that is trauma-informed and accountable. We recognize the history of colonization in our country, and the roles of our ancestors as well as ourselves in that process. We recognize the 94 calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and we aim to provide care that holds sacred the native lands that we live on, the nations of people who have lived here for time immemorial, and the ways in which they have enriched us. We recognize the harm caused to Indigenous peoples through the intergenerational trauma of colonization, and strive to provide care that is informed, affirming and restorative.
Moreover, as helpers and service providers, we strive to learn and grow. We undertake the task of self-reflection, recognizing when we encounter racism, prejudice and discrimination in our own selves, and then doing the work to correct it. We welcome personal and professional accountability and growth.
